Graphic: Zak Waipara, Akira Supreme

"My Involvement in children's books came about through my love of comic books"

Zak Waipara

  • Who
Zak Waipara is a New Zealand based Visual Artist who's worked with the New Zealand Herald comics and children's books. His style really interest me as a Visual Artist that has done Comics and illustrations.
  • What
This illustration was done through Adobe Illustrator, The colours used in Zak Waipara's comics and artwork is a old school colour pallet. Which shows that the artist is good with placement and position. I really like how he used a the airplane theme where everyone is to busy for everything. From the look of the waiter it looks like she is uncomfortable.
  • Where
Zak Waipara was born in Milton raised in Kaiapoi and Opotiki studied graphic design at Unitec, and te reo Maori. He was a former New Zealand Herald graphic artist, most recently for six seasons of the kids' TV show Miharo. He works as a lecture in Digital Media at AUT.
  • When
This artwork was a part of his series that is on his website. The artwork itself has a story behind it and it repesents situations that may or have occured being on a flight.
  • Why
Zac Waipara's concept of stories really show through his work and as a Visual Artist "If you have a good story, then everything else will fall into place". The way he structures his artwork and placement really inspires me to add this technique to my own work.
